1996-01-12 / The abolition of the transfer system in professional association football
On 12 January 1996 a Round Table Session was organised concerning The abolition of the transfer system in professional association football (De afschaffing van het transfersysteem in het betaald voetbal), which took place shortly after the European Court of Justice’s decision in the so-called ‘Bosman case’. The Round Table Session also dealt with the legal and other consequences of the abolition of the nationality clauses in European football. Speakers were Mr Eric Vile, CMS Derks Star Busmann Attorneys, Utrecht, Ms Jessica Larive, Member of the European Parliament, Mr Gerard Slager, Director of the Organisation of Professional Football Clubs (FBO) in the Netherlands, and Mr Theo J. van Seggelen, Chairman of the Professional Football Players Union (VVCS) in the Netherlands. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Robert C.R. Siekmann, Head of Research, T.M.C. Asser Institute.
