Round Table on Support in Sport – EU Regulations

Published 19 February 2015

As result of growing concerns regarding potential unlawful State aid being provided to Croatia’s most famous football club Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatian Parliament organised a Round Table to raise awareness amongst the relevant public institutions and the wider public in general on EU State aid rules on 11 February 2015. To this end, the Parliament invited a limited set of experts, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports and several Members of the Croatian Parliament

Mr Oskar van Maren, researcher International and European Sports Law at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut, participated at the Round Table. By means of a presentation, he provided an overview on how the European Commission currently deals with State aid in sport, using concrete examples, such as the Real Madrid case.

The Round Table was covered by the Croatian press as can be seen in the following link: http://dalmatinskiportal.hr/vijesti/okrugli-stol-o-potporama-u-sportu-financiranje-skautske-sluzbe-u-juznoj-americi-nije-javni-interes-/2682
