Elena is currently in her last semester of her LL.B. programme in International and European Law at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where she specialized in International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law. Before joining the Asser Institute, Elena interned with the International Justice Program of Human Rights Watch in Brussels, and previously volunteered in an Italian centre for unaccompanied minors. Her research fields of interest include international criminal and international humanitarian law, international human rights law, refugee and migration law; she is now particularly interested in issues concerning the exercise of universal jurisdiction by national courts, emerging crimes under international criminal law, and the extraterritorial application of human rights treaties.
