Matt Brown holds an LL.B in European and International Law from the University of Sheffield (U.K.) and is currently finishing his LL.M in Public International Law at Leiden University. He has previous work experience with the Kalshoven-Gieskes Forum at Leiden University working on an international humanitarian law research project and holds research interests in both international criminal law (ICL) and international humanitarian law (IHL). Currently, Matt is writing his LL.M thesis on the applicability of Islamic jurisprudence with respect to the compliance of non-state armed groups with IHL, in particular asking whether pluralist approaches to the application of IHL could generate positive results in dealing with the Islamic State. Outside of his research interests, Matt is a travel, languages and culture enthusiast with an international mindset.
