Dr. Aaron Matta

Dr. Aaron Matta is a Senior Researcher in the Rule of Law Program at The Hague Institute for Global Justice. His areas of expertise cover EU law, international law and international relations. In his work Dr. Matta analyzes the intersection between law and politics in the external relations of the European Union, as well as adaptation and implementation of EU law and international human right standards abroad, particularly in the area of Rule of Law promotion in enlargement countries, Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. Other research areas of interest include International Criminal Law, EU-Russia relations and human security. Dr. Matta worked as Senior Researcher in EU Law at the T.M.C. Asser Institute where he was involved in research, consultancy and capacity building activities and served as Academic Program coordinator of the Centre for the Law of EU External Relations (CLEER). Previously Dr. Matta worked at the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court. Dr. Matta holds a MA in Research and a PhD in European, Comparative and International Law from the Law Department of the European University Institute (EUI).
