Dr. Claudio Matera

Dr. Claudio Matera is Assistant Professor for the Chair of International and European Law and Governance at the University of Twente, The Netherlands. His research focuses on EU external relations in the fields of Justice and Home Affairs and his publications address both substantive and institutional issues. In his research, he considers both EU external relations law and the law of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice as the two most interesting and revealing fields from which the European integration process can be analysed. He is a member of ECLAN, an Associate Editor of European Papers and a member of the Editorial Board of Questions of International Law. Claudio Matera read law at the University of Milan-Bicocca and specialised in EU law at the College of Europe in Bruges. He obtained his PhD at the University of Twente on a thesis on the external dimension of the AFSJ that he begun whilst working as a researcher at the T.M.C. Asser Institute. He has cooperated with CLEER since 2009.
