The Summer Programme on "Disarmament & Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction in a Changing World" is organised for the fourth time by the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in cooperation with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The all-encompassing programme seeks to strike a balance between the legal, scientific, diplomatic and military issues relating to the broad spectrum of WMD in a contemporary world. It links the different disarmament and non-proliferation efforts and at the same time distinguishes the challenges each subcategory of weapons currently face.

The programme will be delivered by experienced officials of the OPCW and other international organisations together with experts in international law and related disciplines, offering participants hands-on knowledge from key professionals in the field.

This year speakers include amongst others:
Chief of External Relations and International Cooperation at the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (Preparatory Commission) in Vienna- Jean du Preez,  International Program Director of the Environmental Security and Sustainability Program of Green Cross International and Global Green USA- Dr. Paul F. Walker, Netherlands Ambassador to Jordan - Mr. Piet de Klerk, Director-General of the OPCW- H.E. Mr Ahmet Üzümcü (tbc).

Please download the provisional programme and the speakers biographies below.

Target Audience
The programme is designed for graduate students and professionals interested in pursuing careers in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation of WMDs.

One day will be devoted to relevant site visits such as the OPCW equipment store, the nuclear research reactor in delft or a field visit to TNO for live exercise of an alleged use of a WMD weapons. This will offer participants direct experience in CBRN preparedness and in the way international treaties on WMDs are implemented at the national level.
