Cheryl graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Honours, and European Studies, from the University of Malta. She is currently completing the Advanced Masters in Energy and Environmental Law (LLM) at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, under the direction of Prof. Geert Van Calster. Cheryl’s research specialisation has focussed on Market Based Instruments, particularly to mitigate Climate Change, as well as other market oriented mitigation measures. She is also intent on the Trade and Environment debate particularly where it concerns TBTs and BTAs.


Cheryl’s work experience in Malta, Luxembourg and Brussels, Belgium, mainly relates to Competition Law and European Funding. She has also taught the English Language for five years. Ms. Micallef-Borg has further spent a ‘youth career’ active in Civil Society and Youth/Student Representation both in Malta as well as at a European level, representing the Islands in various symposia, conferences and meetings all over Europe.


Cheryl fervently expounds pursuing a career in academia, and/or in Climate Change research, policy and diplomacy. Always seeking to learn, she is very keen on discovering more about i.a. Fisheries Conservation Laws; the application of Equator Principles; Coastal Water Pollution Prevention Laws; Water Scarcity/Water Rights legislation and a more holistic ecosystem approach to Climate Change Law.
