Sports Law Lunch & Learn "The FIFA DRC: Key Cases in Recent Years"

Published 30 October 2015

On 28 October, the T.M.C. Asser Instituut welcomed Mr. Frans de Weger, legal counsel of the Dutch Federation of Professional Football Clubs (FBO), for a Sports Law Lunch & Learn on the recent key cases of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC). During his presentation, de Weger briefly touched upon procedural aspects and then discussed the key decisions of the FIFA DRC in light of the recent change of FIFA’s Procedural Rules and Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.

The DRC was established by FIFA in 2001 to resolve disputes regarding the international status and transfer of professional football players. It primarily deals with legal disputes relating to labour disputes with an international dimension but also with respect to disputes concerning training compensation and solidarity contribution.

A new, updated edition of Frans de Weger’s book “The Jurisprudence of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber” will be published by T.M.C. Asser Press in 2016.
