Shamistha Selvaratnam is a LLM Candidate of the Advanced Masters of European and International Human Rights Law at Leiden University in the Netherlands. She graduated from a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce at Monash University in Australia in 2015. After that, she worked as a business and human rights solicitor at Allens Linklaters in Australia where she specialised in promoting business respect for human rights through engagement with policy, law and practice. Most recently she advised various companies on the steps they need to take in order to prepare for the incoming Australian Modern Slavery Act. She has also advised the Australian Government on its stocktake of the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights by government and business. She also undertook a significant amount of pro bono work for a range of clients, including asylum seekers on Nauru and the Australian Red Cross. Shamistha will be working on the Doing Business Right Project.
