Prof. Dr. Ernst Hirsch Ballin
Prof. Dr. Ernst Hirsch Ballin is Professor of Human Rights law at the University of Amsterdam and President of the Board of the T.M.C. Asser Instituut. He is also Distinguished University Professor at Tilburg University, where he has worked since 1981, with interruptions during periods when he held public offices. His current and recent research projects focus on questions of Dutch and European constitutional law in a human rights perspective. In his book ‘Citizens' Rights and the Right to Be a Citizen’ (2014) he discusses the significance of citizens’ rights against the backdrop of ongoing migration and urbanization in the beginning of the 21st century. In ‘The World in the Region’ (2014), he addresses the new interactions between social, private and public forms of government at the regional level, the reality of globalization and its counter-movements.
