Privacy statement

Protecting your privacy is important to us.

In view of the 2018 rules and regulations regarding the protection of data and your privacy we regularly review our privacy policies.

If you send us an e-mail message requesting information about the Institute or one of its activities, we will use your e-mail address and other information you supply solely to respond to your request or provide assistance as requested.

If you register for an event or training course using one of our online registration forms, we will subsequently process your personal data as they have been provided to us by either you or a legitimate third party. We collect these data to be able to perform our services. These services may vary from sending email updates to providing logistical and financial assistance associated with the event or training you wish to attend. Some events or trainings are commissioned by a third party and we therefore may need to share some of the collected information if it, for instance, relates to selecting recipients for scholarships or reporting purposes. By agreeing to submit the online registration form, you agree to the use of these data for the above stated purposes. In the event that we require to use your “personal data” in any other way, we will seek for your renewed consent. Your data will be erased once the event has taken place and its reporting phase has ended, unless you have consented to the continued processing and use of your data.

Data are stored on our in-house servers located in The Netherlands.

Any personal information you provide to us will be retained only for as long as strictly necessary to fulfil the purposes for which the information was collected or as required by law. We do not share personal information with third parties except as necessary to perform our tasks or as required by law or other legal processes, and we never sell your personal information.

Accessing our website from outside of the European Union, and by submitting data through The T.M.C. Asser Instituut electronically, you are providing explicit consent to trans-border transmission of data collected via the T.M.C. Asser Instituut's Web sites and storage of that data on our servers.

“Cookies” (i.e., small text files placed on your computer when you first visit a website) are used on some of our Web sites. Most browsers now recognize when a cookie is offered and will permit you to refuse or accept it. If you are not sure whether your browser has this capability, you should check with the software manufacturer, your company's technology help desk or your Internet Service Provider.

Cookies are primarily used to enhance your online experience and are not used to track the navigational habits of identified visitors, unless we obtain your permission to do so. If you visit our sites to read or download information, such as news stories or articles, the information we do collect is statistical only (e.g., the domain from which you access the Internet, the date and time you access our site, and the Internet address of the Web site from which you linked directly to our site) and are not personally identifiable data. We use this information about the number of visitors and their use of the sites in aggregate form to make our sites more useful and attractive to you.

If you have any further questions or would like to get in touch with our GDPR officer please send an e-mail to gdpr-officer@asser.nl. Your e-mail will be treated confidentially and we will get back to you within three working days.
