Human Security as a New Operational Framework for Enhancing Human Rights Protection in the EU’s Security and Migration Policies (Jean Monnet Grant)

Sep 1, 2013 - Aug 31, 2014

Project description

This was the fourth edition (2009, 2010, 2012) of this kind of project financially supported by the EACE.
The project consisted in the design and organization of 2 conferences within one year, related publications and networking activities.

The TMC Asser Instituut hosts the Centre for the Law of EU External Relations (CLEER) which, since its inception in 2008, has served as an unparalleled collaborative research interface between academia and practice, providing a forum for research and debate on the EU’s external actions and developing an extensive network of partner institutions in The Netherlands and further afield. CLEER has been the first authoritative interface between academia and practice in the field of the Union’s external relations which actively contributes to the debate on Europe’s external actions. With its activities, it develops and maintains an international network aimed at academic cooperation, so as to provide platform for an increased visibility of topical issues falling under the European Unions’ external relations law and policy. CLEER’s substantive expertise centres on legal analysis of the EU’s contribution in enhancing regional and global security, stability and prosperity; the coherence, consistency and effectiveness of the Unions’ external actions; the projection of EU norms abroad and its impact on the development of international law. To promote these approaches, CLEER stimulates innovation and coherence of knowledge on modalities of the EU’s global actions.
The proposed events have been developed and designed by CLEER and will be implemented by the Centre building on its expansive network of experts and solid experience of executing academic discussions and disseminating findings. The activities related to the project will be supported by the T.M.C Asser Instituut’s staff in administrative and logistical assistance and financial management.
