Dmytro Cherneha is a junior researcher at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut. He is currently working on two Ukraine-related projects, specifically, MATRA-Ukraine 2025-2029 and Restoring Dignity and Justice in Ukraine 2025-2027 (Asser component). Dmytro researches the rule of law and accountability for international crimes in Ukraine, leads the implementation of the Inter-University Programme (IUP), monitors legal and policy developments, and provides capacity-building support.

Background:

He graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine) with cum laude, with specialisation in Law. After that, Dmytro pursued a degree at the University of Utrecht (diploma with honours certificate), where he obtained an L.L.M in Public International Law (Human Rights track). As part of extra-study activities, he took part in the Honours program Law Clinic, where he worked as part of a team on the research memo focusing on issues of OSINT/OSI at the ICC. Dmytro wrote his thesis on the issue of corporate responsibility and considers whether new factors should be incorporated into HRDD to better reflect the complexities of corporate operations alongside military aggression.

Before his current role, he was a research intern at T.M.C. Asser Instituut, and worked on ad hoc research in business and human rights related to sustainability due diligence regulations and the process of digitalising/digital tools. He also worked as an analyst for Platform for Peace and Humanity,  interned at the Supreme Court (Ukraine) and Prosecutor’s office and worked as a paralegal in a law firm.

His main interests revolve around International and European human rights, International Criminal Law, Business and Human Rights.
