[Panel discussion] The implications of the NATO Summit 2025

The Hague Humanity Hub, in collaboration with The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) and the T.M.C. Asser Instituut, hosts an expert panel to dissect the summit's key discussions, pivotal decisions, the NATO Secretary General's concluding remarks, and the future trajectory of the Alliance. Our speakers will engage in a moderated, informal discussion, followed by an interactive Q&A with the audience.

Our speakers will provide in-depth analysis on critical themes, including support for Ukraine, the strengthening of European defense capabilities, transatlantic relations, and NATO's strategic adaptation to new and emerging threats. This event offers a unique opportunity for professionals, academics, students, and the interested public to engage directly with leading experts and gain a deeper understanding of the forces shaping international peace and security.

The session will feature an interactive Q&A, allowing attendees to pose their questions to the panellists. Following the formal program, attendees are welcome to stay for further informal networking.

Meet Our Speakers:

• Fiona De Cuyper: Strategic Analyst at HCSS. Ms. De Cuyper's background is in international relations and diplomatic studies, with a focus on Arctic geopolitics, militarisation, and European security cooperation.
• Dr Machiko Kanetake: Newly appointed Academic Director of the T.M.C. Asser Instituut and Professor at Utrecht University. Dr. Kanetake is an expert in public international law, particularly at the intersection of security, human rights, and technology.
• Dr Nathan Meershoek: Assistant Professor at Utrecht University School of Law. His research focuses on EU regulation in military industries, EU military procurement, and the EU's ambition for strategic autonomy. He received his doctorate cum laude for his PhD thesis on the topic.
