DEBATE on the
Study on Sports Organisers’ Rights in the EU:

More legal protection for sports events:
a safe bet?

 Wednesday 14 May 2014

T.M.C. Asser Instituut and the Institute for Information Law (IViR) cordially invite you to a debate on the main findings of the highly anticipated “Study on Sports Organisers’ Rights in the EU”, which they conducted for the European Commission.

The study critically examines the legal protection of rights to sports events and various issues regarding their commercial exploitation by the media and by sports betting operators. The debate will particularly focus on the calls of professional sports organisers for more legal protection against the “unauthorized” use of their events by the sports betting industry (e.g. in the form of a right to consent to bets).

Panellists will include: Mr. Mark Lichtenhein, Chair of the Sports Rights Owners Coalition (representing all the major sports organisations), Mr. Antonio Constanzo, European Gaming and Betting Association / Director of Sport Integrity and Regulation Bwin.Party, and the main authors of the study.

Programme
2.00 pm: Introductory remarks by Prof. Dr. Bernt Hugenholtz (IViR)
2.15 pm: Presentation of the main findings of the study by Prof. Dr. Ben Van Rompuy (Asser) and Dr. Thomas Margoni (IViR)
3.00 pm: Panel discussion with the authors / Q&A
5.00 pm: Drinks reception

Fee: The event is public and free of charge
Registration: Please register by sending an e-mail with your name, organisation and position to: conferencemanager@asser.nl
