Join us for this Jean Monnet workshop for an in-depth discussion of how EU diplomacy is perceived by countries around the globe and what the EU can learn from these experiencesThe workshop convenes experts from different strategic partners around the world to explore EU diplomacy from the perspectives oAustralia, Brazil, Canada, China, Singapore, South Africa as well as neighboring countries such as Israel, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, North Macedonia, and Norway.  

Building on the work of previous EUDIPLO activities it will assess and further develop the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of the EU’s diplomatic activities by analysing EU diplomatic competences and activities from an external perspective. 

The conference is organised by the Department of European and Economic Law of the University of Groningen in the context of the EUDIPLO network on “The European Union in International Diplomatic Relations”, in close cooperation with the Centre for the Law of EU External Relations (CLEER) and the Asser Institute.

Dr Eva Kassoti is a Senior Researcher in International and EU Law as well as the academic co-ordinator for the Centre of the Law of EU External Relations (CLEER) at the T.M.C. Asser Institute. Since November 2020 Eva has been acting as the Co-Chair of the International Law Association (ILA)Study Group on The International Law of Regional Organizations. 

Ramses A. Wessel undefined
Ramses A. Wessel is Professor and Head of the Department of European and Economic Law of the University of Groningen. He is also Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law at that university. He teaches and publishes on various dimensions of European law, with a focus on the interface between EU law and international and domestic law, EU External Relations Law, EU Common Foreign, Security and Defence Policy and the Law of International Organizations. Editor-in-Chief and founder of the International Organizations Law Review, and of European Foreign Affairs Review; Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Groningen Journal of European Law, and former Editor-in-Chief of the Netherlands Yearbook of International Law and of ESIL Reflections.
