Capacity building for judicial reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sep 1, 2013 - Jul 31, 2016

Project description

Human Dynamics in cooperation with Altair Asesores and T.M.C. Asser Instituut

The main focus of the support will cover the judicial and prosecutorial training system currently applied in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), in order to ensure that the resources available are used in an optimal way, and that the content and quality of the training provided is in line with the needs of the machinery of justice in a potential EU candidate country.

It is expected that a minor component of the assistance might analyse and suggest improvements to the quality of services provided by support staff in courts and prosecutors' offices by reviewing aspects such as their rights, duties, legal and administrative status, education and career development.

Topic

Technical Assistance in capacity building

Objective

The overall objective of the project is to improve the capacity, effectiveness and efficiency of the Judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina in prosecuting and adjudicating court cases.
• To enhance the capacity for the training of judges and prosecutors in terms of quality of training delivered, relevance and correspondence with the actual priorities of the judiciary with particular emphasis on targeted areas such as war crimes, organised crime and corruption, and effective use of the resources available;
• To initiate organisational, legal and financial reform of non-judicial staff in the judiciary, aiming at improving their role and status.
