Information
 
Foundation - aims: The H.C.R.S.L. was founded in 1990 and is a legal person in private law.  Its aims are the cultivation and development of the science of, research into and teaching of sports law and to contribute to sporting activity.
 
More specifically, the aims of the Centre are:
 
·    To perform research into sport and sporting activity with regard to sports law.
·    To consult on emergent problems and to apply sports law to current sporting practice.
·    To deal with legal problems in sport and with matters relating to sports law at a national, international and European level.
·    To consult on various matters in the field of sport.
·    To plan and supervise research programmes.
 
H.C.R.S.L. attains its goals:
 
·    Through founding reading rooms, libraries, workshops and study centres relating to matters of sports law.
·    Through organising scientific lectures, seminars and conferences on topics relating to sports law as well as broader lectures and information for the purpose of raising the cultural level and education of the public on matters of physical education and sport through law as a branch of sports science.
·    Through the publication of scientific publications related to its aims, a journal, the Centre's scientific periodical and news bulletins.
 
Through collaboration with physical and legal persons at home and abroad having the same or similar aims.
 
Within the framework of its research activities, H.C.R.S.L. is responsible for planning and carrying out research programmes:
 
a) Harmonisation of Greek sports law with European/Community law (since 1992).
In July 1997, the International Association of Sports Law held the 5th IASL Congress in Nafplio on a similar topic.  This research is in progress.
 
b) Arbitration in professional football and team sports.
 
c) Professional football: The operational structure of the parties - labour relations.
 
d) Structure and operation of the administration of physical education within education in Greece.
The programme is at an advanced stage of research and several elements of the programme have been the subject of many papers read at scientific conferences and published in the journal "International Sports Law Review Pandektis" and in Volumes I, II and III of the Sports Law Yearbook.  Some data was used in the monographs "Physical Education Law and Administration", "Financial Activity and Competition in Sport - the Bosman Affair" and “The Law of International Sporting Relations and Institutions".
 
e) European Sports Charter - a topic of comparative research into the sports legislation of European countries.
A draft of the programme was requested by and submitted to the Hellenic Centre for European Studies (EKEM, a scientific body of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
