Yearbook of International Humanitarian Law (YIHL)

The Yearbook of International Humanitarian Law, published by T.M.C. Asser Press and distributed by Springer Verlag, is a leading annual publication devoted to the study of International Humanitarian Law. It provides a truly international forum for high-quality, peer-reviewed academic articles focusing on this crucial branch of international law. Distinguished by contemporary relevance, the YIHL bridges the gap between theory and practice and serves as a useful reference tool for scholars, practitioners, military personnel, civil servants, diplomats, human rights workers and students.

The YIHL accepts submissions on a rolling basis on any IHL-related issue. Each volume also includes a section focusing on a specific theme, for which a separate call for papers is circulated and specific deadlines apply.

Correspondents’ Reports

The Correspondents’ Reports (describing state practice on IHL and ICL) used to be an integral part of the YIHL. Initially, the reports were included in the book itself, and they later moved to a subpage of T.M.C. Asser Press. They are now part of the new Asser Nexus website, and can be consulted here.

Subscribe to the YIHL's social media pages for updates regarding publications, calls for papers, and more.
