The Summer Law Program in The Hague offers participants an opportunity to study some of the most important legal issues today in the heart of the international justice community.
Instructors for the program will include judges, prosecutors and staff members from the ICJ, ICC, ICTY and other international organizations. Visits to major courts and legal organizations located in The Hague are included in the program. The ABA-approved, six-credit summer program includes two three-credit courses: International Criminal Law: in search of accountability and International Legal Approaches to Terrorism.
The Summer Law Program in The Hague is the product of a unique collaboration between the War Crimes Research Office of American University’s Washington College of Law, established in 1995 to provide specialized legal research assistance to internationalized criminal tribunals, and the T.M.C. Asser Instituut. So far, 108 students have succesfully participated in the Summer Law Program. Student housing will be provided at a holiday resort near The Hague's beach. Extracurricular activities include receptions, opening and farewell dinners, and a weekend trip to Amsterdam, with a boat tour through the canals.
