The T.M.C. Asser Instituut is a leading and authoritative provider of executive and postgraduate education. Utilising our collective knowledge and skills and the power of partnership we create unique and highly relevant training programmes on a variety of subjects and levels for a diverse range of individuals.
Our education and training programmes range from programmes specifically tailored to postgraduate students to capacity building trainings for professionals (including judges, prosecutors, legislators, civil servants, diplomats and lawyers). Our staff is experienced in identifying needs and designing and organising effective training programmes, conferences, seminars, workshops, meetings and other academic and/or educational gatherings.

- [Winter academy] Artificial intelligence & international law
The AI Winter academy offers you foundational knowledge on key issues at the interface of international law and artificial intelligence, and provides a platform for critical debate and engagement on emerging questions. The programme is structured along five themes: Understanding AI, AI for good, AI and armed conflict, AI and responsibility, and AI governance. The AI Winter academy takes place at the Asser Institute (20 - 24 January 2020).
- [Winter academy] Due diligence as master key to responsible business conduct
The 2020 edition of the Doing Business Right Winter academy will dive into human rights due diligence. In this edition of the training programme, we will retrace the genealogy of the concept of due diligence, investigate its theoretical underpinnings, and provide the participants with a comprehensive understanding of its practical operation through specific case studies conducted by experienced practitioners. Through a blending of theory and practice, we equip our participants with the necessary knowledge and know-how to engage with the growing practice of due diligence in their daily work at NGOs, corporations, administrations or in academia. The Doing Business Right Winter academy takes place at the Asser Institute (27 - 31 January 2020).
- [CLEER Winter academy] EU external policies and instruments & asylum and migration
For the first time, the Asser Institute and CLEER are organising the CLEER Winter academy in February 2020. The winter academy is a one-week training course split into two focal parts. Part one runs for the first two days (17 & 18 February), and it will focus on EU external policies and instruments. The second part of the training will run for the remaining three days and it focuses on EU asylum and migration issues. The CLEER Winter academy takes place at the Asser Institute (17 - 21 February 2020).

- [Summer programme] Terrorism, countering terrorism and the rule of law
This Advanced summer programme on terrorism, counter-terrorism and the rule of law is coming back for the 9th time to bring together experts, academics and policy makers from around the world working in the field of counter-terrorism. The summer programme took place at the Asser Institute (26-30 August 2019).
- [Training programme] Disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction
The OPCW and Asser Institute will host the 10th training programme on disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. During this intensive week, participants will be provided with a comprehensive overview of non-proliferation and disarmament efforts regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction. The programme content is delivered by a group of experienced and internationally renowned experts and diplomats in the fields of international law, security and related disciplines. The training programme took place at the Asser Institute (30 September - 4 October 2019).
What you can expect
The duration of the trainings vary per programme: from a few days to several weeks. The trainings take place at the Institute from 9 am - 5 pm. The study load differs per training and of course depends on your previous education and experience. On average, the study load can be calculated as 150% of contact hours.
