Profile

Garance Reus-Deelder (1966) grew up in Zambia and moved to the Netherlands at age twelve. After graduating in economics at the University of Amsterdam, she worked at Unilever in Rotterdam in a range of marketing and sales management roles. Her connection to international law and human rights began when she became campaigns- and marketing manager at Amnesty International Netherlands in 2003. There she developed campaigns to protect human rights in the so called ‘War on Terror’ and helped develop Amnesty’s approach to economic, social and cultural rights. In 2012, she became managing director of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, an organization dedicated to the legacy of Anne Frank and the preservation of the building that houses the Secret Annex, but also an educational organization with youth led programs to combat discrimination, prejudice and anti-Semitism in over forty countries worldwide. Garance was responsible for the operations and financial management of the organization, including a large scale refurbishment of the entire museum. As of June 2020, Garance is National Director of Plan International Netherlands, a global development- and humanitarian organization with a specific focus on advancing children’s rights and equality for girls.
